Academician G.K.Boreskov (1907-1984) is an outstanding scientist, the engineer and the large organizer of science. His works in the field of catalysis have gained the world popularity. It will be sufficient to tell that his vanadium catalyst that has replaced the expensive platinum has made revolution in the vitriolic industry.
The main stages of scientific activity of G.K.Boreskov:
- 1930s - creating the basis of modern technology of SO2 oxidation to SO3. At this particular time, he has laid the groundwork for modern design methods of contact devices and at the same time, he began the worldwide well-known cycle of works in the field of vitriolic catalysis that has ended with the development of a domestic catalyst and a process.
- 1953 year - the formulation of a rule of the approximate constancy of specific catalytic activity.
- 1958 year - the formulation of a principle of the influence of a reaction medium on the catalyst; moving to Novosibirsk and the foundation of the Institute of catalysis.
- 1961 year - together with M.Slinko, he has laid the groundwork for the direction that is now developing the mathematical modelling of catalytic reactions.
- 1980s - pioneer works co-authored with Yu.Matros into the realization of the world-first non-stationary way to carry out catalytic processes.
Creative heritage of G.K.Boreskov covers all basic directions of catalysis, where he always combined harmoniously theory and practice questions.
G.K.Boreskov owns over 800 learned works and inventions. Except for original scientific papers and detailed surveys, he has published several monographs and manuals ("Catalysis in sulphuric acid production", "Catalysis", "Sulphuric acid technology", "Technology of chemical isotope exchange", etc.). Last months of his life, G.K.Boreskov worked on the capital work "Heterogeneous catalysis" that unfortunately remained unfinished. His disciples have finished the work on the book that has been published in the end of 1986.
G.K.Boreskov was involved in editorial boards of the most authoritative domestic and international periodicals on catalysis. He was the editor-in-chief of the "Kinetics and catalysis" magazine from the moment of its foundation. With the direct involvement of Georgii Konstantinovich the Soviet-Hungarian magazine "Messages on kinetics and catalysis" ("Reaction Kinetics and Catalysis Letters") has been founded, he was the editor-in-chief of the Soviet section of the magazine. Georgii Konstantinovich was the associate editor of "Applied Catalysis" magazine and "Advances in Catalysis" and "Catalysis Reviews" periodic collection issues.
The electronic resource that is devoted to his life and work is composed of a biobibliographic index, tables of contents of monographs, and a collection of full texts of certain works of the scientist and publications about him.
The biobibliographic index reflects learned works, editorial works, certificates of authorship on inventions and patents, publicistic articles, as well as the literature on the scientist.
The resource founders express their thanks to Irina Lvovna Mihailova, a collaborator of the Institute of catalysis, for the given materials for the biobibliography of G.K.Boreskov and also thank the collective of the institute library for the aid in working on the index of works of the scientist.
When working on the biobibliography catalogues, we used the stocks and electronic resources of the State Public Scientific Technical Library of SB RAS (including databases "Scientific-and-educational complex of Novosibirsk" and "Science in Siberia and in the Far East") and the library of the G.K.Boreskov Institute of catalysis of SB RAS together with the Internet resources.
The materials of the index are arranged chronologically in two basic sections: "Index of works of G.K.Boreskov" and "Literature on his life and work".
Sources that we failed to see de visu are remarked with * ("an asterisk"). Standard abbreviations are used throughout the index.
