Preface

In June 2001 the 70th jubilee of academician V.A.Koptyug's birth is marked. But this anniversary is a little sad because Valentine Afanasyevich is not with us. As well as Lavrentyev, he had been heading Siberian Branch rather long - for 17 years. But the time Koptyug had to live in was more complicated. His epoch in Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences had been connected with Branch development and definitive formation. But then came the period of country system crisis, the time of catastrophes and destructions that took away the life of this extraordinary person.

Scientific activity of academician V.A.Koptyug was multilateral and included deep basic researches in the fields of organic chemistry, chemical information theory and ecology. In each of these areas he founded the scientific schools developing his basic ideas.

Marking Valentine Afanasyevich Koptyug's outstanding merits, Branch of State Public Scientific Technical Library has prepared combined electronic version of three bio-bibliographies published by State Public Scientific Technical Library of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences in 1981, 1986, 1996 ^[*]. In addition to the bibliographies there is a supplement for 1997-2001.

These bibliographies contain the information on V.A.Koptyug's activity and list of his works in chronological sequence (monographs, articles in journals and collections published in Russia and abroad, newspaper publications, descriptions of copyright certificates). It is planned to attach full texts of works to bibliographic records and the bio-bibliography will be supplemented and developed.
