Three years have passed since untimely decease, on January, 10, 1997, of the oustanding scientist-chemist, the organizer of science and education, state and public figure, vice-president of the Russian academy of sciences and chairman (from 1980 till 1997) of its Siberian branch, the remarkable person, academician Valentin Afanasyevich Koptyug. In 1997 two sets of articles about him have been prepared - for «Rossijskij obozryevatyel'» and «Vyestnik RAN» magazines. Due to various reasons these materials have not been published then.

   Presidium of SB RAS considered it reasonable to publish them as a separate brochure.
