DOLGAN FOLKLORE

Preparation and translation of texts by P. E. Efremov and N. A. Alekseev with G. G. Alekseeva and S. P. Rozhnova. Introductory article and commentaries by N. A. Alekseeva, P. E. Efremova. Musicological article and musical scores by G. G. Alekseeva. - Novosibirsk: Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, RAN Siberian Division, 2000. - 448 pages.

The volume is the first large scholarly publication of Dolgan folklore representing all genres. In total the volume contains 56 texts.

The basis of the corpus of texts comes from materials of the ethnographer A. A. Popov, the folklorist P. E. Efremov, and the ethnomusicologist G. G. Alekseeva.

The accompanying record contains audio recordings of traditional performances of heroic tales, non-folktale prose, the refrain of a round dance, personal songs and onomatopoetic imitations. Black-and-white photographs appear in the introductory article and in the appendices. They give an impression of the performers, scholars, and folklore collectors, as well as of the clothing, decorations and traditional dwellings of the Dolgan.
