Patent fund of NSC was organized in 1977 in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok at the base of the Branch of State Public Scientific Library of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.

Today it is a storage of patent documents with specialized reading room. It contains 1 300 000 copies, 1 230 000 of which are represented by descriptions of inventions for Russian author certificates and patents, including 30 000 copies at optic discs. There are also official editions of Rospatent, information editions and guides of Russian Institute of Patent Information, literature in patent law.

Patent reading room serves specialists in patent information, scientists and specialists of more than 20 scientific institutes of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. Every year about a thousand of visitors carry out different types of patent investigations there. Only in 1996 scientific institutes of NSC had sent to Rospatent 126 claims for inventions, 147 patents for previously sent claims were received.

Patent documents can be obtained directly in the reading room or through Interlibrary Loan. You can order a copy of desired document. Various consultations, topical exhibitions, seminars and presentations are held in the reading room. Library bibliographic inquiries also can be made there

Besides traditional library services, the Branch of SPSL SB RAS presents its readers the opportunity to lead automatized search in data bases. Since 1994, readers can use DB "Patents of Russia", and since 1996 - DB "World Inventions" on CD-ROM. Besides, specialists of the Branch created their own database - Inventions of Novosibirsk Scientific Center since 1978 up to 1994 [Choose special option from menu].

In patent reading room 4 specialists with higher education work, 3 of them have special education in the field of patents. It is a creative association of enthusiasts, who devoted many years to patent service in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok: Gaun Maria Mikhajlovna, Poyaskova Elena Georgijevna, Bondar Evgenya Vladimirovna. Despite all the difficuties, they keep in proper condition all the documents, help readers to orient themselves in the great bulk of patent information, learn new technology of service.

At the eve of the 20th anniversary, we remember with heart words Soboleva Nina Fadeyevna, the first Head of Sector of Patent Documents, creator of patent fund in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok, Stukalina Nina Alekseyevna, veteran of library work from the Adoption group, Bardina Natalja Mikhajlovna and Volobujeva Tatjana Nikolayevna, bibliographers of high qualification.
