On May, 24, 2007 the Branch of the SB RAS State Public Scientific Technical Library has held «a round-table conference» with the motto «The Libraries of the Novosibirsk scientific center – 50 years servicing the science» that has been devoted to two dates: to the 50th anniversary of SB RAS and to the All-Russia day of libraries.
Veterans of library work have been invited to the meeting to Akademgorodok. There were 3 generations: the first collaborators of the libraries of NSC institutes, the organizers of these libraries, their successors and today's young heads. The total of more than 70 persons were there. The discussion turned out to be interesting and warm. The veterans have been awarded by Certificates of honour «For the contribution to the development of the library work in the Novosibirsk scientific center and in relation with the 50th anniversary of SB RAS» that B.S.Elepov, the director of the State Public Scientific Technical Library has handed. 30 persons have been awarded. A special attention was given to the Branch of the SB RAS State Public Scientific Technical Library, the central library of NSC, to A.A.Egorova, its first director, who would be 85 year old this year.
Old photos, presentations of libraries with the use of new materials aroused most lively interest of the participants. The presentation ended with a concert of the «Inspiration» vocal ensemble from «Yunost» recreation center. The participants of the meeting were suggested to organize a club of veterans that would be held on a biennially basis.

- SB RAS: HISTORY and the PRESENT TIME
The organization and activity of the Siberian Branch of RAS can be spoken of as one of the features in the history of domestic science during the last decades. A literature exhibition that is presented in the reading room for the 50-year anniversary of SB RAS tells about the history of creating, the modern state of Akademgorodok, about people who make up genuine property of the Siberian science. Memoirs of organizers of the Siberian branch, Akademgorodok trailblazers and old residents about creating and development of the unique centre of science in Siberia, books and publicistic articles of M.A.Lavrentyev, G.I.Marchuk, V.A.Koptyug, N.A.Pritvits, and Z.M.Ibragimova have embodied the wonderful time and the remarkable people that created Siberian science.

SIBERIAN SCIENCE, PERSONS
The exhibition presents more than 30 books about eminent scientists, the founders of the Siberian science, leaders of scientific schools, outstanding scientists: M.A. Lavrentyev, A.A. Trofimuk, D.K. Byelyayev, A.L. Yanshin, A.P. Okladnikov, and many others. These include memoirs of the contemporaries, published letters, curriculum vitae, sketches about the life and work of scientists, photos collected by the composers and the authors of the books.

An exhibition of literature «The Chairmen of the Siberian branch of RAS, 4 stages of the development of Siberian science» has been organized for the 50-year anniversary of SB RAS. The exhibition presents publications of academicians M.A.Lavrentyev, G.I.Marchuk, V.A.Koptyug, N.L.Dobretsov that reflect their work during the period they guided the Siberian branch. The exhibition involves both scientific works on the subject of their professional work and the publications that are related to their work at the Chairman position. These works reflect well the development of Siberian science during various periods of its fifty years' existence. The exhibition reflects only small part of the publications of the academicians (about 100 printed units); one can be acquainted in more detail with the works of this period in the following sites:

| On May 12, 2005, the meeting of Information and Library Council supervised by Presidium of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science was held. The President of Council, Academician V.V.Boldyrev chaired the meeting. The Scientific Secretary of Council V.A.Dubovenko informed about fulfilment of decisions of the previous meetings. The following problems were discussed: centralized acquisitions of the libraries, the development of the Branch of SPSL, the development of scientific and electronic libraries, the state of academic libraries of SB RAS. The members of Council, leading specialists of State Public Scientific Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences took part in the discussion. On all problems concrete decisions were made.
On March 1, 2005, co-ordinated meeting of the patent services of Novosibirsk Science Centre was held in IATP Centre. The urgent problems of patent and information service were discussed. 19 scientists of theory and practice of patenting took part in the meeting. Y.V.Loburets, the consultant of the Research Administration Department, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, told about state program to create the special economic territory in Novosibirsk Science Centre. L.A.Dmitrieva, the manager of department of the patent documentation of the Branch of SPSL, the senior scientific worker, told about real and virtual patent resources of Federal Institute of Industrial Property (ROSPATENT), Presidium of the SB RAS, SPSL of SB RAS and “The Patent Resources” of the Branch of SPSL.
In February, 2005, the Branch of State Public Scientific Library received acknowledgement to continue working on the grant “Schools of thought in Novosibirsk Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science: Information Aspects” (¹ 04-07-9012v supported by the Russian Foundation of Basic Research).
In December, 2004, the project “The Development of Electronic Library of Academician V.A.Koptyug” (grant ¹ 03-03-12020v supported by the Russian Foundation for the Humanities)
was fulfilled. For these two years, the great body of resources showing many-sided activity of the scientist was created.

On October 25-28, 2004, SPSL SB RAS held scientific and practical conference “Regional Electronic Resources: Generating and Interacting Problems”. I.A.Pavlova and I.V.Kurbangaleeva, S.K.Kann, I.G.Yudina, the employees of the Branch of SPSL made the reports in the conference.

The collection is of interest for a wide range of theoreticians and practitioners in library work.

Within the framework of "Internet Access and Training Program" of the Administration of
Cultural and Educational programs of the USA State Department, (implemented in Russia by noncommercial corporation "Project Harmony Inc.") the new public access Internet Centre (IATP Centre) was opened on September 10, 2004. This program is held in Russia by noncommercial corporation "Project Harmony Inc". Alexander Wershbow, the USA Ambassador in Russia, took part in the opening ceremony. The mission of the Centre is the provision of all the information services for all the visitors and all the alumni of exchange programs funded by the USA government: information retrieval, providing advice on the strategies of information retrieval using search engines, in full-text, reference and bibliographical databases, catalogues, development of training courses and holding training workshops and providing free Internet access for the visitors. |

- Since March 2004 the Branch of State Public Scientific Library (SPSL) has been working on the projects: "The Development of Electronic Library of Academician V.A.Koptyug (grant N 03-03-12020v supported by the Russian Foundation for the Humanities); "Scientific Schools of Novosibirsk Scientific Centre of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science: Information Aspects"(grant N 04-07-90121v supported by the Russian Foundation of Basic Research).
- On March 9, an exhibition devoted to the urgent subject, "The problems of scientific citation", was open. It presents about 50 publications of Russian and foreign experts.
Over the last decade it has become obvious that research activity should be evaluated with the consideration of the quantitative parameters that provide unbiased rating of scientific achievements.
During the last 10-15 years the western scientometrists used the term "citation index" as a criterion of such ranking, which has its supporters and opponents.
- During the period of February, 5 to 29, the exhibition "German Books in Siberia" was demonstrated. It included about 300 titles of the books printed by different publishing houses. The thematic scope of the exhibited books is history, politics, pedagogics, linguistics, natural sciences, environment, medicine,etc.
Since 1992, there is a good tradition in Siberia - to show new books published in Germany. Organizers of the exhibition tours, the Frankfurt Book Fair with the support of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Germany, hold such exhibitions regularly. During the recent decade several exhibitions of new books, published in Germany, were arranged in Academgorodok.

- We invite you to visit the Exhibition of Recent Acquisitions. Weekly añquisitions into the Branch funds, as well as the books of SPSL SB RAS, recieved as deposit copies, are represented there.Since May, the exhibition of publications recieved from SPSL is demonstrated since 9.00 on Friday till 9.00 of next Thursday.
1998
On September 8 in the Scientific reading room the exhibition of new foreign books in biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, technique and social sciences was opened. 217 editions represent the main world scientific publishing houses - Academic Press , Blackwell , Chapman & Hall , Wiley , etc. The books are exhibited in the Branch, and after September 25 - in the main building of SPSL SB RAS.
- On August 17, book exhibition "Russian Cinema: History and Contemporeneity" timed to the Day of Russian Cinema, celebrated annually on August 27, was opened. On its stands, more than 200 books, dedicated to Russian cinema, cinematographists' lives and work as well as memoirs of famous people of russian cinematography were represented.
- Information letter of the International Library Information and Analytic Center, International Association of the users and creators of CDS/ISIS and new information technologies, SPSL of Russia and Scientific Innovation Center "Sigla" about planned international and home arrangements in library thematics.
- On July 10, the exhibition "N.A.Roubakin: enlightener, scientist, writer, bibliographer (1862-1946)" was opened.
The name of Nikolaj Alexandrovich, rarely remembered nowdays, at the border of XIX-XX centuries was respected by the whole educated Russia. Erudite, author of 350 articles, 280 books and booklets, 15 methodic books on self-education, N.A.Roubakin played an outstanding role in rising of Russia from the lack of culture. His scientific popular works were published in 28 languages. On the exhibition, one can get aquainted with a small part of the works of famous enlightener and the books about him. About 70 items, among them the materials from the Rare Book Fund (Museum of Book of SPSL SB RAS) are presented.
- On July 3, the seminar "Technology of Preparation of Claim for the grant of the Opened Society Institute" was held. In the seminar, directors of the libraries of scientific institutes of SB RAS and the worker of Novosibirsk Branch of the Soros Fund Yu.A.Bourlev took part.
- Since June 15, from the Potaninskaya Library into Scientific reading room rare American Encyclopedia were deposited.
These excellently illustrated editions contain information in all the fields of knowledge, along with the chronicals of the passing century. History and culture, flora and fauna, science and technology - 170 volumes in total, including "American Annuals" (Appendix to "Encyclopedia Americana") since 50ties to 1992.
- Since June 5, in the reading room of the Branch the exhibition "Russia: the end of the 90ties (on the materials of newspaper and magazine publications)" was functioning. About 50 articles on social, political and economic questions were exhibited.
- On June 3, the report for the staff of the Sector of Reference and Information work about the methods of work with "Journal Citation Reports" (the determination of impact-factor of journals and some other questions) was made by the bibliographer of Reference Subdivision of SPSL SB RAS N.Redkina.
On May 28, the Branch celebrated The All-Russia Library Day.
An interesting report about the protection of cultural values of Italy was made by the Chief of the Rare Book Fund of SPSL SB RAS V.N.Alekseyev. On the invitation of italian colleques, Vladimir Nikolayevich read lections on Russian culture in the University of Bologna.
